Temporary exhibition at the "Slutsk Entrance Gates" architectural monument
Only in the summer will visitors have the chance to see this unique Baroque monument not only from the outside, but also from the inside.
From May 1 to September 30, 2025 the Slutsk Gate architectural monument will host a temporary exhibition “Color. Light. Glass” from the collection of the Nesvizh Museum-Reserve.
At all times, majestic cathedrals, churches, and even small chapels have been decorated with stained glass. The art of creating stained glass itself has its roots deep in history—even before the Christian era.
The first stained glass windows appeared in Egypt and Rome. They consisted of randomly arranged pieces of colored glass. Later, these panes evolved into mosaics, assembled in a lead frame to form a specific pattern.
It is known that stained glass was also produced in Belarus. The creation of stained glass compositions is closely linked to the production of sheet glass and is directly dependent on the development of the glass industry. Mass glass production took shape here as early as the 18th century, thanks to the opening of glass factories in the villages of Urechye and Naliboki. Today, Belarusian glassmaking is actively developed by the legendary Neman glassworks in Berezovka, renowned for its diverse products.
At the exhibition "Color. Light. Glass" you can follow the history of stained glass art in Europe, glassmaking in Belarus, and see with your own eyes original 19th-century French stained glass windows and glass products produced in different years of the last century at the Neman Glass Factory. And the blue and yellow stained glass window of the Slutsk Gate, against which you can take interesting photos, will certainly not leave anyone indifferent.
The exhibition of the architectural monument "Slutsk Gate" is available only during the summer.
