Temporary exhibition The Iron Chronicle: let's iron out the pages

From June 8 to November 12, 2023, the Smaller Exhibition Hall of the Palace Ensemble presents the temporary exhibition The Iron Chronicle: let's iron out the pages from the private collections of the chairman of the National Belarusian Association of Collectors Boris Vasilyev and pressophilist Yulia Rzhevskaya.

The exhibits of the exhibition reflect the curious history of the iron. Various ironing tools were made of wood, stone, glass, iron, brass, bronze, cast iron, aluminium and were used for bending, softening, pleating and smoothing out of fabrics, as well as for giving the necessary shape to certain items of clothing.

The exhibition presents irons from China, Japan, USA, Austria, Russia, Belarus, Italy, Great Britain, Norway, Sweden, Germany, Holland, France, India and other countries. Devices and tools for cold ironing, as well as all groups of irons, based on the methods of their heating, are on display. These are charcoal irons, irons with metal inserts, solid-cast irons, paraffin irons heated with alcohol, kerosene, gasoline, etc., irons heated with gas, steam, water and, of course, electric irons. Special purpose irons are presented as a separate group.

The exhibition presents the history of the origin and development of the iron in various countries: from the appearance of the first tools for ironing to the irons of the middle of the 20th century. For some visitors, this is an opportunity to recall the past and warm memories, and to learn new things and honour history.

Exhibition ticket prices are: 5 BYN for adults, 2.5 BYN for schoolchildren and students, for large families when visiting museum objects with three or more minor children (under 18 years old) – 2.5 BYN
